social media class? Yes please.

To imagine a class dedicated to the beautiful rising art of social media, I revel in the glory of taking a social media class when other Creighton students are tackling physical chemistry. But after my first day in class, I have realized that it’s not just about the status updates and retweeting; but rather understanding the complexities of incorporating social media into a business model. This is not an easy task. I’ve had this blog for over a year and I didn’t even know why tags were important. That’s how much I know.

Carol directed us to a page where some bloggofeshionals congregated, and I came upon an awesome blog called the “Social Media Examiner.” It examines many social media issues and explains up-and-coming trends. But what I couldn’t pass up discussing was the post about a mom from Alaska who is bringing millions of viewers to her site. In fact, she is nearly bringing 3 million page views per month! It’s remarkable to me. Image

When she started her blog, she barely knew what a blog was. Though she is nearly 2,000 miles away from the nearest Pottery Barn, she has come to teach countless people how to build beautiful furniture, all by yourself!

I give her a ton of credit. And who said you need a man to do the handiwork?! Check out Ana’s blog here.
