biden to obama: “this is a big f$%@ing deal!”

YES, it sure is a big f$%@ing deal when the Vice President of the United States is caught on open mike dropping the f-bomb to the President. But it happened. And the Obama administration isn’t too concerned with it.

USA Today reported it on March 23rd, explaining that when the health care bill was being signed, the exclamation was made. Minutes later, it was tweeted by Fox News, MSNBC played it on the air, and as USA Today reports, “folks at the White House got a good chuckle over the whole thing.”

Personally, I think it’s one of those things that people are going to over-react about. Unfortunately, this will cause many people to disapprove of the administration. But I think it’s fine for the following reasons. (Let me first put a disclaimer that I don’t think the f-bomb is a necessary term to throw about in conversation, nor do I condone its use regularly, but back to what I was saying)

1) It humanizes politicians. Though that may seem silly, we put these PEOPLE on a pedestal – and they are just that: people. When overheard to be real people saying real things that any given citizen may say- ends up making most people feel closer and more relatable to the people in charge of our country.

2) It should make people realize how tightly wound they are, and learn to relax a little. Unfortunately, most people (essentially those that pay attention too much; political critics) have their panties in a bunch and need to just chill out. This is not the end of the world. It’s not like Biden has never said the f-bomb before, or that he doesn’t say it because he’s VP. We seem to freak out about things like this because people on TV censor themselves enough to be appropriate, and thus, doing something like this unintentionally accomplishes my first point. (See #1).

3) It’s a good laugh. I enjoyed it. And it is a parody-crazy-opportunity. There are already shirts. http://www.zazzle.com/hcr_big_fing_deal_tshirt-235071564353624757. It’s now a catch-phrase. You can even buy coffee mugs. And mouse-pads.

And finally, I love that the media has the power to perpetuate this so damn quickly. The twitter world knew about this probably before Mrs. Biden did. And that’s what our society is coming to. That’s my piece. What’s yours?
